Horatio H. Simrall, born in Shelby County, Kentucky in 1845, came to Missouri after graduating from law

Their children James S. Simrall, born 1884, and Ernest G. Simrall, born 1887, were both lawyers. Both
attended William Jewell College and received their law degrees from Kansas City School of Law. Both
served at one time as the city attorney of Liberty as well as prosecuting attorneys for Clay County. James
S. Simrall, Jr., born 1916, was also a lawyer and practice law in the family firm. The law offices of Simrall
& Simrall were located in the National Commercial Bank Building on the Square in Liberty, Missouri.
Scope and Content
Documents in this collection pertain to the law offices of Simrall & Simrall from the 1930s through the
1950s. Much of the collection is correspondence between the law office and clients regarding legal
matters. The files are not complete. Sometimes only notes on envelopes or receipts for payments made
give clues as to the people involved in the cases. Other documents include items pertaining to the
business itself such as bank receipts, tax receipts, and insurance information. The folders are arranged
alphabetically and the items within the folder are arranged chronologically.
