Biographical History
Rene St. Julian, born ca 1660, was a Huguenot refugee from Paris, France who settled on the shores of
South Carolina in America with his wife Mary Bullock ca 1700 or 1701. The family and their descendants
relocated to Maryland in 1712, to Virginia in 1737, and to North Carolina a little after 1760. George
Julian, born 1752, then moved the family to Tennessee. The family relocated to Indiana before George
Julian, born 1801 in Tennessee, moved the family to Adams Co., Illinois. There, his son, John Strafford
Julian, married Louisa Beach. This clan moved to Sacramento, California in 1849 where their
descendants remained. Direct descendant Beatrice (Bea) Julian Snapp compiled the Julian family
research as well as research of her other ancestors, including her grandmother, Louisa Beach, Louisa’s
mother Betsy Humphrey, and Betsy’s mother, Lucy Marshall, all of New England.
