Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
11 June 1953
Thur [Thursday] Morn [morning] 11 A.M.
Dearest Wife
I think I am starting the last letter that I will write in Germany on this tour of duty. Thought I
would let you know I am still around. I brought my things down to P and C [packing & crating] this morn
[morning] to get them packed. Didn’t realize I had so much I think I have to pay the shipping of it from
N.Y., that will cost me quite a bit I imagine. I have just been lazing around trying to let the time go by,
believe me it is going slow to. I hope it doesn’t take over 3 wks [weeks] after I leave here next Wed
[Wednesday]. Whether it takes longer or not this is one trip I have really been looking for. At least I will
be headed in the right direction this time. I got my clearance papers this morn [morning] I am going to
try to wind most of it up today all except going to the hospital. Tomorrow me and a buddie may go
down to Hidleberg [Heidelberg] Germany would kinda like to see the place if I can rake up the time and
if the weather isn’t to bad, right now it looks like rain outside. [page 2] Got a letter from you all last wk
[week] none so far this one I don’t know if you wrote me anymore or not sorta been looking for one. I
bought about everyone in my family a present also one for Mom Lentz, only person I cain’t seem to find
a darn thing for is Janice I just don’t have a[n] idea what I could get her. Been taking in most of the
shows saw Road to Bali last night and tonight is bingo again. I recon [sic] Sun [Sunday] will be the last
time I play never was very lucky at it anyhow. Honey I want you to call up the Folks and tell them I am
on my way but am to darn lazy to write. Okay? I have seen a lot of people leave here sure does make
me feel good to be the one who is going now. One thing for sure you better watch me pretty close
when I get home or we may have 5 or 6 little Jr’s running around. Angel it has been so long I don’t have
any idea what it will be like when we get together again. I tried not to think of it to much but now I am
coming home and it is on my mind again. Course I want to know how to handle a cold-natured Woman
best I remember you [page 3] used to be pretty hot. No offence I love you any way you are. Hows [sic]
our Son? I suppose still as handsome as his pop huh? (I’m really not bragging just kidding? I have to go
down Mon [Monday] to Kaiserslautern to get a partial pay spent most of my money on presents there
are a millions things I would like to of sent home if only I would have had the money.
You should have married a man with money don’t you recon [sic]? Well hon [honey] I think I
will sign off though I would just say hello to all one more time. Can hardly wait to see you all again
shouldn’t ought [sic] to be long now.
All my Love
Jr Tinder
P.S. Got a letter from you Mary K and Mom today. Honey you should of known I would get Mom Lentz
something (I’m not telling what it is) I know I will never be able to repay her and Pop Lentz for what they
have done for us. Glad you got the dishes I couldn’t afford them. Recon [sic] I better go finish up
clearing the post what I can anyhow. Got to pick up my Hold Baggage claim check at 4 PM. See you gal
