Dearest “Darling”
Here it is time again for my weekly duty, always glad to see it roll around for it means I am 1
week closer to going home. I put in for a 17 day leave today with that coming up the 2nd of May I feel
my time over here has about ended. Well last wk [week] I didn’t quite run the same old grind, in fact I
never did much of anything took in 2 shows and played bingo on Thur [Thursday] nite. Couldn’t bowl as
the alleys are being repaired. It so happened I was lucky and had to pull CQ [Charge of Quarters] Sat
[Saturday]. I hate it about as bad as I used to KP [Kitchen Patrol]. The weather has taken a change for
the better the last 2 or 3 days been pretty nice out. The boys have started wearing their Kahi’s [khakis]
still a bit to chilly at night for me thou [sic]. (I have sleeping sickness went to sleep writing) Just went
over and made arrangements for a truck to carry us boys in to practice softball now that bowling is
about over haft [sic] to have something to occupy my time with. We got moved put to our new shop it
isn’t to bad. I still liked it at old P&C [packing & crating] better cain’t [page 2] coffee call anymore a bit
to far to walk. I got a roll of film developed from my new camera they sure turned out good I am proud
of it, after I learn to operate it good I ought to get some nice pictures. Hope to get some good ones in
Paris. What would you like for a soveniur [souvenir]? To bad I am not rich so I could get everyone
something. If all goes good I hope to land in New York around the last of June and be out by the 10 of
July, that should be awful close to the way it will be according to the other boys that have been leaving
here. Boy you sure don’t write much anymore I believe you are getting worse than me (I think I will
have to punch you in the nose when I get home). Course that ain’t all I intend to do so you better watch
out for me. Angel it has been so long I wonder what it will be like to be with you again. If you aren’t to
cold-natured I am taking you and running off after I say hello to our Son (I practally [sic] forgot about
him shouldn’t take me to long to get used to it I suppose. I tell you one thing for sure I had married
pictured a lot different from these [page 3] past 14 months. We have a lot of lost time to make up think
you can stand me? No I am afraid the first Sgt[Sargent] isn’t from Leavenworth ask her if he may be
some Kin to the Dubois & Wilks I met a Sgt [Sargent] in Frankfort [Frankfurt, Germany] who was from
Leavenworth forgot his name thou [sic]. Sounds like you received some gifts for your birthday. The Red
hat and shoes plus the green-gray coat sound like quite a combination to me I would like to see you in
anything right now thou [sic]. Have you learned anything from your sewing lessons yet? hope so I may
want something fixed when I come home. Tell Aggie Ennis hello for me and tell all the rest of the family
also. If James is anxious tell him from experience it will desert him soon as he gets in the Army. Sounds
like you had quite a bit of loose change all of a sudden are the allotment checks 137.10? Was tickled to
hear we got 127 refund don’t know why you should have to send it to me but if you do I will be rich
won’t I? Don’t worry about the $25 if I hadn’t of send the money I would of sent a gift same difference.
I don’t have to many wives so I can surely buy them a gift on their [page 4] birthday. Hon [Honey] I think
that about winds up the news. Got to write the folks listen to hillbilly gasthaus, practice ball and take in
the 8 30 show my but I have a hard afternoon and eve [evening] ahead (don’t mind any of it except the
writing. By the way how is my guitar mike and amp? am getting anxious to get ahold of them again.
Wait till you see and hear the tape recorder bet everyone gets a kick out of it quite a machine may send
it home early I intend to mail and insure it even if it will cost me quite a bit don’t want to take any
chances. My radio works okay never hardly listen to it except for the gasthaus still that is the most
important to me. Tell all hello for me hope all are okay there. Don’t work to hard and hope to see you
soon
All my Love,
Jr Tinder
