Mon [Monday] Morn [morning]
8:30
Dearest Darling
Here it is another Mon [Monday] but I am in fine spirits so I can hardly call it a blue one. It looks
like the beginning of a beautiful day out. I will sure be glad when this chilly weather is past. It was
pretty darn chilly this week including Sat [Saturday] and Sun [Sunday] don’t see how it can stay that way
to much longer, this country is crazy so you can expect any thing thou [sic]. I hear from your alls [sic]
letters you must have had quite a snow storm while back I recon [sic] it has long since past. Well won’t
be long till school is out I bet Calvin is glad also Harrel graduates this year too. Old P.C. [Platte County]
sure had a good season in Basket Ball I hear dear old Weston didn’t do so hot, whats [sic] the matter
huh? To bad you didn’t go to a good school.
Not much cooking around here went to the shows as usual last wk [week], bowled Fri [Friday]
night won 1 lost 2 they were pretty close games still we lost. Got one of the inspections over Fri [Friday]
morn [morning] I took off Fri [Friday] afternoon [page 2] will sure be glad when the one tomorrow is
over ought to be the last one I have to stand. We have painted the billets even caught me a couple of
days when I was training first actual work I have did in quite a while, don’t suppose it hurt me to much.
Bought me a pretty nice camera Sat [Saturday] got to get the flash attachment yet and then learn how
to opperate [sic] the darn thing before it is any good to me. The one you gave me takes good pictures
but it was so unhandy to carry around. It only cost $32.50 plus the flash I figure around $46 all together.
I had a little money saved up but now it is about gone. I will have to start all over again. I am planning a
15 day leave around the 1st of May want to get a look at Paris take a few pictures and pick up a couple
soveniurs [souvenirs]. Don’t look for you Bd [birthday] present till about the time I get home I haven’t
thought of a thing to get yet will have to shop around when it warms up. Don’t you feel to bad about
not answering Aunt Hats last letter I have done the same thing I must get her 1 off sometime this wk
[week] she was good enough to write I ought to be good enough to answer. [page 3] Boy it takes you
longer to mail you letters than it does to write them. I have one here you wrote the 26 Feb [February]
and mailed it the 4th of Mar [March], what’s the matter? Forget? Yep I recon [sic] broken hearts will
mend but still I couldn’t afford taking chances from the sound of your letter I gather you wish I had. I’ll
admit I am not much of a catch maybe I was a heller like Elvera’s “Bill” you didn’t have to put up with it
as we were not married at the time. Seems like you have changed a bit since I have been gone one thing
we must never do when I get home is fuss and fight you can be a wonderful person when you want to
be and naturally that is when I love you most. I am not good anytime, think you can stand me? Our boy
must be a whiz I tell you it seems strange me being a Dad. I don’t know what to say about your’e [sic]
working I guess it is allright. Just don’t forget our boy comes first heck with the money although I know
how much we will need it as well as you. Glad Doris and Jr had a nice reception, by the way were
[where] did they have it at? I recon *sic+ I should know only I don’t. *page 4+ About Kenny I didn’t mean
to say he wasn’t in good hands with Mom Lentz. She knows more about kids then you may ever know
(no offence our moms should). It is just that I will be, (I don’t even know how to say it) anyway your
folks have been so good to us, usually when a girl marries she leaves home. Doesn’t stay there a year
and a half. I guess we were just victims of circumstances thou [sic] on account of this no good Army.
Well Hon [Honey] I am out of material to write so guess I will close for now. Even if you do get awful
tired and don’t even care if I have Fraulines’[sic] I still love you. (a little bit) Hope all are fine and tell all I
said “howdy” (sounds like a Texan huh?
