10 AM
Dearest “Wife”
I must say it is time to write you again. Even thou [sic] I am not to full of news I can let you
know I am still kicking I recon [sic]. Just came back from packing a Capt [Captain] this morn [morning]. I
had another dull wk [week] still I cain’t kick as it seemed to go by pretty fast. I am still going to shows
playing songs and bowling, never seem to get to play the guitar much since Smokey left. We
Mon [Monday] afternoon
I forgot what I started to write with that (we), so will start all over. I sure had a bit of excitement
when I stopped writing a music shop caught on fire 3 doors down from us. The man came in hollering so
we ran out and tried to save all we [page 2] could. It also burnt up a book shop and a grocery and liquor
store right next to us. A flower shop was damaged pretty bad. We didn’t get much out of any of the
stores as it got hot so fast. I took some pictures will send them to you next wk [week]. The grocery
store people moved all their stuff here in P & C [packing & crating] boy is the place ever cluttered up.
Smell[s] pretty bad in here as they salvaged even a scrap of paper after the fire was put out by the
firemen and the Armys [sic] fire station. So much for that but I sure feel sorry for the people especially
the old man who owned the buildings as I know him pretty good. I finally got a weekend pass and went
to Frankfort [Frankfurt, Germany] didn’t have a [page 3] bit of trouble finding Don. He was down at the
bowling alley bowling. Hasn’t changed a darn bit to me in the past 8 years except get a little bald don’t
even look like he has growed [sic] a bit. We talked over old times then he said he knowed [sic]a Sgt
[Sargent] who was kin to Dubois so later the Sgt [Sargent] came up I got to talking to him and he said he
knowed [sic] a boy from 11worth [Leavenworth] in one of the other billets. I said I knew one, Bill Aaron
he then said that was who it was. You ought to seen Bill when I walked in. We took a few pictures but
he couldn’t go out as they were going on maneuvers the next morn [morning]. Me and Don went down
town got us a room then went and ate. Got up Sun [Sunday] at noon ate again then walked around
[page 4] for a spell. Finally sit down and talked till I started back at 7:12. We are going to Paris this
spring together I am going to take a short leave the 2st of Feb [February] to get out of a big inspection
haven’t figured out anywhere to go no place in particular. I suppose my (Loving) wife and Son are okay?
As well as the rest of the family? Hope so anyway. My oh My sounds like I got your dander up talking
about you being fast. I didn’t know you didn’t like skinny me I sure will try to put on weight if it will help
any. I got the pictures some of them were pretty good you might of wrote a little on the back so I could
of known which one was Kenny took me a [page 5] minute or so to figure it out. I got a letter from Mary
K today she said they were getting another new car boy I can hardly keep up with them they change so
fast. We have all kinds of things to drink boy I could really tie one on if I wanted to; there are humpteen
[sic] people in here right now shooting the breeze still I am about to go to sleep writing this letter guess I
shouldn’t of stayed up so late with my gal in Frankfort [Frankfurt, Germany] boy they sure were pretty.
Are you jealous? I bet not, you would be if you loved me thou [sic]. Of course you probally [sic] honkytonk so much yourself you never notice it. Well hon [honey] I must close this, hope all are fine and tell
all hello for me. All my Love Jr Tinder Over
[page 6]
P.S. Bought me another new song book yesterday don’t know many of the songs thou [sic]. Would it be
possible for you to send me a copy of “Ride in my little Red Wagon” and “Whoa Sailor”? This old
weather is sure messy out hope it is better there.
See you
So long
