Mon [Monday] Morn [morning] 9:30 AM
Hello: My Favorite Wife
I think, since I am not to busy at the moment, that it is a good time to scratch you a note. Well it
looks like another dull Christmas for me this makes the second one in a row I hope it is the last one I
ever spend in the Army. The past wk [week] has just been tiresome days to me. I do the same old thing
wk [week] in wk [week] out but ever[y] one of them makes it closer to the time I will leave this country.
Which I say now as most of the fellas say (I’m just a short-timer. I had a dull wk [week] went to some
shows and bowled Fri [Friday] nite hit 230 to make me feel pretty good got 9 strikes out of 13 tries
should have had a higher score but fouled up a couple frames. Nothing came of my X ray although I
have to take heat treatments for 10 days. They seem to [page 2] have loosened up a cold I now have.
Don’t get my wart took off till the 4th of Jan [January] will be glad when it is gone again. When Wed
[Wednesday] rolls around this wk [week] it will be as good as over for me I get of this Thur [Thursday] Fri
[Friday] and only work ½ day Sat [Saturday]. Not that I care as I sorta like to lay around. Man this little
River by packing and crating sure raised the devil yes [yesterday]. It came out over the road, got in the
stores filled all the basements full and even got about 6 to 8 in deep in P & C [packing & crating]. The
men have been cleaning the floor all morning it is now in pretty good shape had around ½ to 1 in [inch]
of mud all over the floor. I was stand-by driver of a 2 ½ ton truck from 5:30 to 10:30 last night hauled
out people, cars till heck wouldn’t have it. Ain’t it awful having to work on Sunday nite? My helper
Volpe has gone to Italy for 25 days the lucky devil. By the time he comes back it will be about time for
him to head for home. I will [page 3] probally [sic] wind up with some crack-pot helping me. Just so it
isn’t some nigger I think I can stand it.

Dearest: Wife
I hope you won’t feel to hard at me because you can see that I had good intentions for I started
this letter Mon [Monday], only I never did get it finished. It looks like one of the big holidays is past with
still one to go, I will miss going out and dancing up a storm on New Years [sic] Eve (Also stealing a few
kisses if you would let me) would you? I hope I have a[n] understanding wife. I never did much over
Xmas went to the show, played a little music with Smokey, we are having a 2 hr [hour] show at the
service club Sunday eve [evening] at 2 PM so we had to sorta work up a show. I had intended to go look
up Don and Bill this wk [week] end [page 4] if it hadn’t been for that. The Xmas dinner was not so good
as thanksgiving still it wasn’t bad we had turkey, dressing, shrimp salad, mashed potatoes, corn, minced
meat pie, nuts and candies, fruit cake, with coffee to drink. It just wasn’t as well prepared as it was
thanksgiving. We had off yesterday all day I slept till around noon then yes. [yesterday] eve [evening]
went bowling never hit 200 but came close (196). They switched bingo from Thur [Thursday] to Fri
[Friday] so I played bingo last night one of my old room mates Amerson won $40. They now have 2$500 1-350 pots. Couldn’t I go honky-tonking if I won one of those? I don’t know if I told you lately but I
love you quite a bit. Seems like the closer I get to coming home the lonsomer [sic] I am for you. I don’t
know how I can stand it these next 7 months but I suppose I will haft [sic] to some way or other. I got all
the pictures you sent me [page 5] I must say Doris does look different than I remember. Tell Mom Lentz
I said her picture looks just like her. Well I think our Sons [sic] looks has improved a lot since he is a little
older. You don’t have to worry about his ears either just remember how handsome I am with mine. I
will send those back of Doris they just fit in the envelope. I think I have ketched [sic] you up on the news
so will sign off for this time. Tell all hello for me and ----
