Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Sept [September] 26, 1952
Sept [September] 30, 1952
Tue [Tuesday] Morn [morning] 8:30
Dear Wife
It is time that Uncle Jr wrote you another note, you can see that I had good intentions as I
started to drop a line last Fri [Friday] but I had to go out on a job. Probally [sic] by the time you receive
this I will be a papa for the first time in my life (that is for sure). I must admit I worried one time pretty
much only every thing turned out okay. I hope you get along fine will be glad when it is over, hope that
it doesn’t have to happen to often if ever again.
I will always say that I am unlucky as the devil as I sure think I would have enjoyed myself for
awhile had I been able to be with you. Bet you cain [sic] guess [page 2] what today is? Just another day
to you but payday to me sure am glad to see it roll by as it means 1 more month is of[f] the list. If the
rest of them go as fast as this one did I will be satisfied. We have been busy lately as a lot of U.S. men
are getting out maybe that is why time seemed to go, in a few minutes I have to un-pack our post
commander so will have to finish your letter later. I haven’t been doing much lately far as nite life in
concerned Fri [Friday] eve [evening] is our first football game and from then on I will be fairly busy. I
missed a good show last night I kept messing around at the billets until it was to late to go, sure wish
now I had of went [page 3] because I hear it was really funny. I received a letter from you yesterday also
1 from Mom, I owe a few letters just cain’t seem to get started writing them anymore. Believe me I sure
didn’t intend to make you have a baby and as for worrying about another one you said you were going
to be cold-natured. So you wish I had of broke my back? Thank you, it gets pretty dam boring over here
sometimes maybe you might not be so good yourself. As soon as you get rid of the stomach you are
going to see what you can do about getting even with me? How the hell you know I have did anything?
And if you don’t want to kiss me with beer on my breath I can promise you one thing I will not force you.
It is also possible I think of [page 4] old times myself. I knew you would wish in your mind you were
single again. If it weren’t for a certain responsibility we now have (I suppose) I would help you get that
way. If I had it to do over again I would be as free as a bird, I would stay so far away from girls it would
be impossible to fall in love. (Does that answer your question?) This is no dear John letter as it so
happens I love you and I don’t know how you ever put up with me, but it is just no good being 5000
miles away from each other. Well I got paid at 11:15 got $60. I have to buy me a pair of shoes and quite
a few odds and ends will probally [sic] have around 50 left that may last me at least I hope so, I honestly
[page 5] cain’t figure were [where] I spend so much. Actually I have it lent out and these people are
slow paying it back. Therefore I am not lending anymore I will find some excuse. It is time that I signed
off for now as I have ran out of anything to say, tell all hello for me. I hope the ordeal is over and that
you made it just fine. (By the way what did you name our girl)
Your Loving Husband
Stringbean
P.S. Don’t take anything I said in this letter serious as like you said sometimes you feel pretty low and
after reading one of your letters I was sorta sore, the other one was pretty nice thou [sic].
Bye Bye
I hope the youngen [sic] doesn’t look to awful
