[typewritten letter]
July 5, 1952
Sat [Saturday] Eve [evening] 6 pm
Dear Wife
I don’t know how to operate this machine but I will try to write you a letter anyhow. It looks to
me like it is writing awful small, probally [sic] a place to make it type bigger only I do not know where it
is at. I am pulling this dreaded C Q [Charge of Quarters] again on a weekend to. I don’t have much to do
so I suppose I might as well spend my time this way. I played bingo Thur [Thursday] night didn’t even
come close to winning anything, makes me feel bad if I don’t have a chance. Fri [Friday] we got off for
the fourth of July I was sure wishing I was where I was at 1 year ago. I played ball that day then got
drunk after the game. Had a date with you and we went to the danc[e] out at polish park. Boy how
things do change in a year makes me wish I were about 16 once more.
It has been quite warm here the last week or so not that I mind as I can stand hot weather much
better than cold. How is the weather at home now? Went to a good stage show last night saw a pretty
good show afterwards also it was “meet Danny Wilson”. One thing good we don’t have to pull C Q
[Charge of Quarters] both Sat [Saturday] and Sun [Sunday] anymore just one day at a time. We wound
up moving Thursday it was really a job I am so tired Moving here and there that I hope I never have to
move again as long as I am in the Army. This is really the jinks over here. We are all crowded up have to
start pulling K P [Kitchen Patrol], it is also a lot harder to get back and forth to work. Everyone comes in
drunk making a lot of noise you don’t get to sleep till 2 o’clock, have to get up at a quarter to 6 I know I
am going to enjoy it very much at our new home. I think I will sign off for now and write some more
later.
[handwritten] P.S. I would make quite a typist only took me 45 min [minutes] to get this much.
