Riedel, Julia Slemons
Biographical History
Julia Slemons Riedel was born on 3 October 1910 in Monticello, Drew County, Arkansas. Her parents
were Wirt Adams Slemons and Julia Desay Gardner. She also had two brothers (John Collins Slemons
and Gordon Wirt Slemons) and two sisters (Suzanne Leighman Slemons, and Marguerite Slemons). Later
in her life she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1930, and to Kansas City, Missouri in 1941. She died on
12 October 2005 in Union, Franklin County, Missouri. During her life she also wrote a book titled
Brigadier General William F. Slemons, C.S.A.: His Ancestors & Descendants. She was also married twice.
First she married Roy St. Clair Harrison, and after her first husband’s death she married Bill Riedel.
Scope and Content
This collection contains the genealogical research of Julia Bess Slemons Riedel. Most of the content’s
focus is around Julia Slemons Riedel and her immediate family, the Gardner Family and the Slemons
Family. The collection also contains some information about the McCoy, Snodgrass, Harrison, Biggart,
Mark Ray, and Hartsfield families. These families are either directly related to Julia Slemons Riedel or
related by marriage. Most information in the records covers the history of the families and how they
