Biographical History
Cler-Mont Elementary school is a part of the Fort Osage School District located in Independence,
Missouri. Cler-Mont was built in 1966 and named for a Chief of the Osage Indians. The school officially
opened in October 1966; after being housed in a church and a rental facility. Originally the school
consisted of 14 classrooms; however in 1967 bonds were passed that allowed for the addition of more
classrooms, a kitchen, and a library. The Cler-Mont Elementary Parents as Teacher Association was
formed on October 13, 1966.

Scope and Content
This collection contains items relating to the history of Cler-Mont Elementary School and its Parents as
Teacher Association (P.T.A.). These items cover a range of P.T.A. activities such as board meetings and
events. Also contained within this collection are photographs documenting various Cler-Mont
Elementary classes, faculty, activities, and events.
