Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Nov [November] 8, 1951
Thur [Thursday] Eve [evening] 1:00 PM
Dear Beastly Wife
Guess I will man this pencil for awhile [sic] and write you a letter. Everything is still as a mouse
in this barricks [sic] as no one is in it but me. I have been lucky during this bad week as yesterday will be
the only day I have been out. Mon [Monday] I had K.P [kitchen patrol], Tue [Tuesday] we didn’t go out,
Wed [Wednesday] Combat in cities, today barricks [sic] ordely [orderly] and Fri [Friday] at 11:00 I am
going to have my teeth filled which I dread. Sat [Saturday] the usual P.T [physical training], and
inspection plus I hope to come home, which right now is kinda doubtful as everyone is restricted to the
post. If the snow melts off and the roads are clear I think we will get passes. It would be funny in 1 way
and odd in another to have a wedding party with the groom not there, I doubt if anyone would miss me
thou [sic]. [page 2] I doubt if you all have any music yet, that is what has been worrying me most. I
guess maybe I should of waited and found that out before we had the party. Mary K said they may have
the car fixed this weekend anyway I hope they do as I would like to have it this next week. I still hate it
like the devil but it doesn’t do anygood [sic]. Got your short letter last night I found out that you still
love me (I hope). Of course I don’t love you as you ought to know. Now to be truthful it honestly seems
wonderful to be married I go around all the time saying (my wife or the old lady) ha ha. It seems just like
I have been married a long time. I would be real happy if only we could be together all the time. All in
all this married life may not be to bad. [page 3] This barricks [sic] ordely [orderly] business, at least all
morning was not to easy as I really cleaned this hole up. This eve[evening] unless someone tells me to
do something I am going to take it easy. I would like to lay down and sleep but some big wheel may
come in and I will have to report. Yes I agree you had better make many dollars because I am flat broke
between getting married, wreck my car and other things I am much poor. I hope the weather was not
as bad up there as it has been here I think it snowed around 18 inches. I hope it stays warm and melts it
off because next week is bivouac week. I bet it will be colder than the devil. 2 more weeks and then I
hope to be home for 15 or so days that will be swell till I have to leave possibly for overseas duty of
which I hate to think about. I only know one thing I am [page 4] really getting tired of this basic training.
Went to the show last night (The Unknown Man) it was a fair picture. First time I have been out for a
couple of weeks I would go more often but I hate to change to my class A uniform, lazy I guess huh?
Well Baby think I will close for now probally [sic] beat this letter home anyhow.
All my love always
Jr
P.S. Tell the folks and all hello for me
P.S.S. Take good care of my big fat wife will you?
Love you much
