Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Oct [October] 22, 1951
Mon [Monday] Eve [evening] 9:00
Hello “Darling”
Right now I am just wondering if it is as wet up there as it is down here? Believe me it has
rained many inches here today and hasn’t quit yet. We were out in it all the time to, I was simply
drowned and froze by the time we got back to the barricks [sic] tonight. I will venture to say this has
been the worse day so far in Basic training. I am hating this Cadre (especially the first Sgt [Sargent]) plus
the Army more each day. I will really be glad when Basic is over maybe it will be a little better. At least
½ or more of this Company has already been restricted to the post this coming weekend (So far they
haven’t got me yet) thanks to mom. Just because they had a few dirty clothes in their barricks [sic] bag,
that is the reason. We got back at 3:30 this morn [morning] after a shower and shave I got a hr [hour]
and half sleep, boy but I [page 2] hated to get up. At least I made it to Reville [reveille] this morn
[morning]. I really didn’t have to much hope for a letter tonight but I got one from you, thanks a lot it
was a pretty sweet letter. Did you mean everything you said? I hope so for it seems I love you much
more here lately. What do you say (and no fooling this time) that we get married week after this if you
still want to. Maybe if I get to come home this weekend we can fix everything up. I know you won’t
believe me. Although I might just fool you who knows? Don’t tell anyone but don’t you think that is a
beastly thought? I knew you would. I suppose you are making many dollars this week? I am flat broke
so how about borrowing 50? Not cents either you ought to know by now that it doesn’t do any good to
hoard it up. I dropped mom a line tonight also. Boy but I hate to write even thou [sic] I have gotta.
[page 3] Next week we have a I.G. [Inspector General] inspection which lasts 2 days we are supposed to
have all our clothes stamped by Wed [Wednesday] this week also I have to get a haircut maybe if I am
lucky I can get those things done tomorrow night. If it isn’t one thing in the Army it is another. Well
“Angel” (only you and no one else I had better close and hit the sack. Am looking forward to seeing you
in a darn few days
All my love and lots more
Jr Tinder
P.S. In case I forgot to tell you I think you were wonderful this past weekend.
Bye
P.S.S. Tell all the folks hello for me, also have fun at the Tabocca [tobacco] show (that excludes all dates
by the way)
See you
