Biographical History
Westport Bank was established in 1906. The building at 331 Westport Road in Kansas City, Missouri,
dates back as far as 1876. The Westport Bank purchased the property and remodeled it in 1920. The
bank was in existence for 80 years when it merged into the Merchant’s Bank in 1986. William E. Severns
(1913-2005) worked for Westport Bank for 41 years serving as President and Chairman of the Board.
Scope and Content
This collection contains photographs and other items related to the Westport Bank in Kansas City,
Missouri. Black and white photographs from the Christmas parties in the 1940s and 1950s show bank
employees. Other photographs from that time show the exterior and interior of the bank building. Color
photographs include a ribbon cutting after the renovation of the bank in 1978 as well as well as another
social event.
