Biographical History
Andrew Jackson Walker was born September 1, 1836, in Jackson County, Missouri, to James Morgan and
Polly (Cox) Walker. Andrew Walker and his family became intertwined with the infamous William Clarke
Quantrill in December 1860, when Quantrill joined a group of Quakers headed to the Walker farm to
free their slaves. Quantrill ultimately turned on the group and warned the Walkers about the group’s
plans. Three died, and Quantrill was taken to jail. Andrew Walker convinced the crowd that had
gathered to spare Quantrill and saved his life. Later, Andrew Walker joined Quantrill’s group and served
in the Confederate Army. On April 12, 1860, Walker married Elizabeth Braden in Jackson County,
Missouri. Walker next married Eliza Hannon in Jackson County on November 8, 1874. In February 1880,
Walker married Fannie Warren. On June 9, 1903, Walker married Eliza Tevis in Parker County, Texas.
Andrew J. Walker died on February 26, 1911, in Weatherford, Texas.
