Biographical History
Jabez G. Mitchell was born July 26, 1816 in Virginia. His wife, Sarah Ann was born in 1826 and died April
6, 1855. They were married on December 24, 1846. The couple had two children, Rebecca Mitchell born
December 7, 1847 in Missouri and Stephen henry Mitchell was born August 14, 1852 in Missouri. They
lived in Chariton County, Missouri. By 1860, Jabez is working as a day laborer, Rebecca is living with A. H.
Fleming family, and Stephen is living with Elizabeth Fleming.

The family Bible contains names and dates of the Mitchell family. Primarily following Rebecca Mitchell
and her husband, Lycurous Garrett, and their descendants. Record of births, marriages, and deaths are
written on the family record pages of the Bible.
