Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
20 May [19]53
Wed [Wednesday] Morn [morning]
9 AM
Hi “Babie”
As I start this note to you “All Ich [German for I]” has 28 more days left here in B.K [Bad
Kreuznach, Germany], providing nothing happens. I found out this morn [morning] that my port call is
the 18th of June I leave here the 17th. I get my walking papers at Camp Breckenridge Kentucky. Why
there I don’t have any idea but any place suits me okay. Well I got back off of[f] leave or rather I signed
in at midnight last night sure hated to believe me. I wish my furlough was just starting as I sure hate to
start soldiering again. Actually I plan of doing nothing or just enough to get by. I spent 4 wonderful days
in Paris it is the most interesting place I have ever been I could talk for days on it. Won’t try to write it I
will tell you about it. Sure a lot of sights to see and we saw most of them I walked humpteen [sic] miles.
Took 4 rolls of pictures, bought some pictures and a few odds and ends for you.
They aren’t much but may be you will like them. I went up Sat [Saturday] to see Don again
before I come [page 2] home (also saw Bill). I think maybe Don is coming down here the 6, 7, 8 of June
on a B day pass. Rest of my leave I got a room in BK [Bad Kreuznach, Germany] slept and ate played
bingo and took in the shows is all I did. Last Thur [Thursday] I liked only I-26 winning $350 and when
they called I-27 next to last no [number] I just about fell though the chair. I sure was excited believe me.
Some lucky fella won 2000 DM’s ($500) on Sun [Sunday] night I could use a little change like that. Hows
[sic] our boy? mean like his Pop I recon [sic], won’t be long till I get a squint at him. I got the picture of
you and him awful proud of it to (Don’t get stuck up now). Did you have your hair cut when it was
taken? hope so as I wouldn’t want you to cut off anymore than that. Honey I can think of lots to write
but would rather say it in person so how’s about putting it aside for awhile? You know I sure am
beginning to hate to write or at least I am not in the mood. I hope you will forgive me this should let you
know all is well this side of the pond. While I am thinking of it start putting [page 3] APO 42 on my
letters instead of 227. Guess I will sign off for now tell all hello for me, see you around the 10th.
All my Love
Always
Jr Tinder
P.S. We have been having some nice warm weather here hope it is as good there.
Question????
Think you will be able to put up with me when I get home? hope so
Bye
