Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
31 March 1953
Tue [Tuesday] Morn [morning] 8:30 AM
Dearest “Wife”
Boy had I better get busy writing. I am used to scribing on Mon [Monday], was reading the
morning paper when I happened to think that I haven’t written yet this week. Another month has came
to a close leaving 2 to go I am really getting to be a short-timer makes me feel good just to think about
it. Had a pretty good week last week didn’t do any work as I was off most of the time on account of the
bowling tournament which finished up Saturday. I sure couldn’t bowl very good none of our team won
a thing still we had a lot of fun. I had quite a job scraping up enough guilt to even play I sure was busted
flat. After buying my tape recorder and camera besides what I loaned out it sure took all I had saved up.
I took in the shows and played bingo on Thur [Thursday] night as usual first time I ever won was for $5
some other guy bingoed [sic] with me [page 2] we cut cards for it and he won. (Aren’t I lucky?) Is my gal
really working to hard or is she kidding me? After all who’s idea was it that she went to work? Probally
[sic] nobody’s but she knows how poor her husband is. Sounds like you have been having a lot of
company which is good. I bet you really don’t even miss me anymore once in a while you just say you
do. In this dreary dump you better believe I miss you only it doesn’t do me any good to say I do. I hope I
never have to be away from you again if ever we get back together. I will be so glad when we have our
own home even if you cain’t “cook” haha. Yes I must say it tickles me to hear Germans speak English I
bet it tickles them lot more to hear me try to speak Deutch [sic]. Our Son is trying things that are a little
bit to hard for him isn’t he? Acting to big for his britches just like his Pop. I tell you I am getting awful
anxious to get as squint at him. My dear Wife what makes you think I would have gotten sore over
something like that I know I am a[n] odd character but [page 3] not that bad over something we really
need. Fact is I will send you some money to pay on it for your birthday. Okay? I hope I am not wrong
when I say your birthday is April the 5th, honestly I have forgotten hope you aren’t mad at me. I’ll admit
I acted funny about Jean. It may have been possible, had I wanted to, that I could of had her I don’t
know. One thing I do think I acted sorta childish but don’t we all make mistakes? I think I have a 3 day
pass this Fri [Friday], Sat [Saturday], Sun [Sunday] ought to catch up on my sleep hadn’t I? I have never
heard from Bob, Don or Bill plus Frank lately I recon [sic] they have forgot I exist, time changes
everything including people I suppose. Finally got my new teeth yesterday they are sure a wonderful set
cost $245 all gold sure am proud of them except for 1 thing, they have 2 clamps that fit over my front
teeth. They fit perfect but the clamps look odd [drawing of clamps and front teeth]. I think possibly
they will take those 2 clamps off. I wore them yesterday feel fine but one of my [page 4] back teeth
were [where] the clamps hooks around it is awful sore must of hit a nerve or it is no good one or the
other. Well Hon [Honey] this ought to let you know I am still around so will call it quits I have to go pack
a Lt Col. [Lieutenant Colonel] this morn [morning]. Hope you are all fine and tell all “hello”.
Love as always
Jr Tinder
P.S. Today is payday am I glad hate to be broke. How is the weather there? it has been pretty decent
here lately. You write about as often as I do anymore don’t you?
P.S.S. Here’s $25 for that gift I never sent
Love
