Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
10 Mar [March] 53 [1953]
Tue [Tuesday] Morn [morning]
7:45 AM
Hi “Sugar”
Don’t scold me to much for not writing yesterday as I was pretty busy. However I am on the job
bright and early this morn [morning]. Our nice spring weather did not last, yes [yesterday] it even
sleeted a little and was chilly all day today is not much improvement. Somewhere along the line I caught
a head cold been blowing my nose off takes around 2 handkerchiefs per day. Had a dull week, last wk
[week] never did much of anything Fri [Friday] I went to the dentist got my teeth cleaned and 1 filled
also saw the Doc about my dandruff. He said it wasn’t very bad gave me some kind of solution to put on
it. I did get to bowl Fri [Friday] night had been so long since I bowled last that I didn’t do to good. (114,
169, 179) We won 2 games. Business is picking up here in P&C [packing & crating] again still I am not on
the job much anymore. Being athletic NCO [Non Commissioned Officer] and having so much trouble
with my teeth has kept me away quite a bit. After bowling the other night I bought me a tape-recorder
gave 120 for it. I know we cain’t afford *page 2+ to spend what little money we have for something like
that but it was a real buy. It costs $225 in the States. I didn’t buy it on account of the bargain thou [sic] I
bought it because I have been wanting one. We sure had quite a time with it never laughed so much in
my life, I really get a bang out of those things. Didn’t get a W/E [week end] pass this past week either I
was so mad. Bill nor Don hasn’t ever came down seems like I cain’t get up anymore myself. Bill has
some pictures I would like to get he said in his last letter they turned out pretty good. Wound up going
to the show Sat [Saturday], Sun [Sunday] both they weren’t to hot either a person has to go someplace
on Sat [Saturday] I recon [sic]. We have a couple big inspections coming up this Fri [Friday] and next Tue
[Tuesday]. Remember when I took a furlough to get out of inspections? Well they just postponed them
till now. Aren’t I real lucky? How is that youngen [sic] of ours lately, from all I hear about him he must
be quite a feller. It will be funny for me to walk in and my boy which I [page 3] have never seen to say
“hello Pop.” Things like that is what this sweet Army does for you. I was thinking yes [yesterday] with
me taking a 15 day leave I will have around 10 weeks left in this neck of the woods so it is about time I
ask you if you are still my gal? “Just checking” for I will be home before long. I am thinking of buying me
a good camera what do you think? You can get some real nice ones pretty darn cheap. Not that the one
I have won’t take pictures it is hard to pack around. Kitten I am not in a writing mood today and that is
all of the news around here. Believe I will sign off for this time will report in again next wk [week]. Hope
all are okay and tell all hello.
Much Love
Jr Tinder
P.S. How are all the Newlyweds making it? (as if I didn’t know)
P.S.S. No mail yes. [yesterday] maybe today is my luck[y] day. See you
Haven’t got you Bd [birthday] present yet it may be late I want to wait till it really warms up so I can
shop around a bit.
