Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
9 Feb [February] 53 [1953]
Mon [Monday] Morn [morning]
My Dearest “Wife”
I think it is past time that I write you again but as you know when I went on leave before I didn’t
write then either. I made it back just fine never went very far in the first place just wanted to get away
this burg for awhile. I first went to Sorhen Ger [Sorhen, Germany] it was just a small town I saw a swell
Gasthaus were I stayed it was fixed up like a cave really was pretty. They were also starting a new Air
Base there I spent 1 day and night in it those Air Force Boys are really something a little crazier than the
Army I believe. I left Sorhen [Sorhen, Germany] on Thur [Thursday] and went to Trier Germany it was
really quite a town 80,000 people. I stayed there [page 2] till Sat [Saturday] afternoon slept and ate
most of the time I was gone as it was a bit cold to do much sight-seeing. Still all in all I enjoyed myself
quite a bit. I intended to go see Don and Bill but by the time I got to Bingen [Bingen am Rhein, Germany]
Sat [Saturday] night it was to late to go on to Frankfort [Frankfurt, Germany] so I came on to Kreuznach
[Bad Kreuznach, Germany]. Went to the E.M. [Enlisted Mens] club ate a fried chicken dinner then went
to the Billets dropped off my suitcase and caught the 8:30 show. That is something come off a furlough
and go to a show the same day. I wasn’t tired mostly because I hadn’t done a thing. I left Trier at 1 got
to B.K. [Bad Kreuznach, Germany] around 7 quite a bit of riding came most of the way by bus all except
18 kilometers. [page 3] How is the weather back there now? When I left here it was damp when I got
back that was a good 4 in [inches] snow on the ground they said it snowed all day last Thur [Thursday].
It is also snowing out today Volpe said it was the most snow they have had here in B.K. [Bad Kreuznach,
Germany] the past 2 winters. Boy there was a lot of it down in the part were [where] I was reminded
me of good old Missouri. Volpe leaves in 10 days which reminds me I am getting to be a short-timer
myself. I hope to leave here around the first part of June that only leaves the rest of Feb [February],
which is a short month and March April and May. Honey do you know that I will be seeing you [page 4]
before to much longer? Believe me I am getting anxious I bet the rest of my time here goes slow. Angel
I didn’t write to good a letter the last time I wrote I will say I am a little sorry but you know how that
temper of mine is and you sorta teed me off a bit. Well I got 5 letters the wk [week] I was gone 2 from
you so you see you only write 1 more than I do. I didn’t know I would be so popular if you had of went
to Uncle Walts shindig but from the sound of 1 of your letters you sure gave me a build up. The reason I
wanted to know if we had any dishes is I may buy a set over here they really have some beautiful [page
5] china. As for you sending me any money I was only joking as you probably know allready [sic]. So Jr
and Doris are getting hitched huh? I am glad to hear it I think they will make a good combination. He is
getting a mighty fine girl that is for sure. I don’t think you need to Honky tonk even if you haven’t been
to a dance for 2 months. I don’t get to do much myself maybe we will make up for it a little when I get
home cain’t you wait for about 5 months? As for your weight being up again you told me you didn’t like
me being so skinny so I won’t bother you any more about it. Yes I remember when you silly kids used to
call me long-sigh it never lasted very [page 6] long thou [sic] did it? The ladies here in Germany think I
have red hair so you won’t have to dye yours after all will you? That shows Kenny is ours. Honey I must
admit I had a few high balls with Pop Wilks I cain’t say as it hurt anything thou [sic] do you? I have news
for you if you married me for my money well, I don’t have any. I doubt if I can make your heart beat any
faster when I get home if I ever could. I do know for sure there were a lot of times when you shook me
up quite a bit yourself. I just hated to admit it. I’ll tell you one thing I never married you for your money
I was afraid someone else might steal you while I was gone. Do you [page 7] honestly think you would
have waited for me? And remained true to me in one very important matter? I was sure afraid maybe
you wouldn’t. I was supprised [surprised] when I saw that picture of Mrs Hill-what magazine was it in?
Say our Son is getting to be quite a man huh? takes after his pop I bet. To be 3 months 17 days old 15

lbs doesn’t seem like much weight but I don’t know much about babies, 2 ft [feet] 2 in [inches] tall isn’t
bad thou [sic]. As for my income tax papers I have never got them yet will send them along, file it the
same way we did last year or ask Ferb which way would be best since you didn’t work to much the past
yr [year]. If necessary take it to Mr. Clevenger did you ever pay him for ours [page 8] last year? Yes I will
write Hank a line whenever I get a little time. My Darling I think I will close for this time. I would like to
be with you right now even if you are cold-natured I wonder what it would be like to hold you in my
arms and kiss you again? seems so very long ago to me. I often think how I wanted to kiss you all the
time when we first started going together, it was wonderful. I was afraid you wouldn’t like it if I kissed
you to much thou [sic]. Honestly did you like it? I am much lonesome for some loving would you like
the job? Well I must stop and write the Folks. Hope all of you are okay and tell all hello for me.
Your no good Husband
Jr. Tinder
P.S. Don’t forget to answer all of my questions
Bye.
[page 9]
I forgot to tell you our March of Dimes Party we had turned out to be a big success. About everyone
was drunk would you believe it if I said I haven’t been drunk for I don’t even remember how long. You
see I knew you had no reason to call me a drunkard. I have reason to think you may have started
smoking. Even if you are not my slave (as you put it) I would hate to see you start a habit like that.
Volpe has some eggs and meat cooked up think I will eat a bit. Sure will miss him when he is gone. love
over [page 10] I got my W-2 Form at noon so will send it along in this letter. Take it to Mr. Clevenger I
believe that would be best if it is necessary I sign some papers maybe you will have time to send them to
me and get them back. Better take this up right away and find out what we have to do. I don’t know
whether you have yours or not yet. Whatever he thinks best you can do.
