Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Nov [November] 10, 1952
Mon [Monday] Morn [morning]
8:25
Wed. [Wednesday] Nov [November] 12th
11 AM
Dearest “Wife”
I am a wee bit slow this week as you can see by my date. I did have good intentions thou [sic]
only I was pretty busy Mon [Monday]. I hope you won’t be to mad at me, I could write when I am off
duty only I never seem to get around to it.
I haven’t been doing much at nights anymore seems like the shows are mostly no good and I am
to lazy to play basketball. In the near future I will be plenty busy as we are getting ready to start some
sports (bowling & basketball). Last wk [week] they appointed me as Alethetic {misspelled} [Athletic]
NCO [Non Commissioned Officer] for the Det [Detachment] it seems kinda hard to get anybody
interested because about all [page 2] those guys think of is drinking & women. I am pretty sure of a
bowling team as for basketball I don’t know. I think I will go to Frankford [Frankfurt, Germany] this Sat
[Saturday] night and sing at the Palm Garden Club, Smokey and his bunch have been playing there at the
Eucom [United States European Command] Grand Ole Oprey and he has been wanting me to go for a
month or so, I expect I will be pretty scared but I will get to hear a lot of good music as they have quite a
few different bands, it lasts around 2 hrs [hours]. One of the boys in the Det [Detachment] bought
himself a tape recorder so I am going to get Smokey and we are going to try it out tonight. I sure do get
a bang out of those things. How is little Kenny? Got a letter from mom today she said he was all broke
out with the heat. I bet he has really been raising a fuss. I don’t think [page 3] you need to worry about
people handling him to much as our Moms have raised quite a few and we are still kicking. Of course
you do what you think best for I sure don’t know a darn thing about taking care of one of them. I am
curious to see those pictures you took of you as well as the baby. I still contend I want my wife to look
like she did when I left (or is it impossible) still no matter what I love her (don’t tell her I said so thou
[sic] will you?). I got your card believe me you could never guess how much I would like to have been
with you these past 10 months. I hate the Army for it to, nothing will change my feeling about it either.
Just got back from eating so will tack on a few more lines. [page 4] The show wasn’t to bad or maybe I
was just hungry. Boy it is plenty chilly over here and raining almost everyday [sic] I bet this is going to be
one heck of a winter. I don’t suppose the weather is to bad at home as of yet? So you would like to go
back with Doris huh? You might think it would be swell and it probally [sic] would be for awhile [sic] but
I bet you would get so homesick so quick it would be pitiful. I tell you Angel there is no place like home,
to me that used to be only a saying but in the past year or so it has become a reality. I expect I will be
plenty willing to settle down if ever I get the chance. If it is the amplifier that is broke that is worse yet I
suppose you knew the mike only [page 5] works in the No [number] 3 hole. Write and tell me if it is
okay or not. At the rate money gets away from me I will never be able to afford another one. I didn’t
need the papers on the baby so if you want them back write and tell me, otherwise I will keep them till I
come home. I believe it will increase your checks to $117 or somewhere around there. I am sending
your Christmas present to the folks they can give it to you Christmas. I don’t know whether you will like
it or not but I couldn’t think of anything you would want. Well Agnes I think I will sign off hope you are
feeling better by the time this arrives as for me I am fine but still gripe a lot. Tell all the folks hello for
me, see [page 6] you in about 10 years.

P.S. These saws are noisey [noisy] as heck and these guys seem to like to play with them today I hope
they get tired by 3 P.M so I can listen to hillbilly Gasthaus. Tomorrow night we are supposed to sleep on
Ruburg Hill all night. Doesn’t that sound nice? hope I don’t catch cold.
P.S.S. So Alvera is after Bill huh? maybe he has something she likes. As for the neighbors talking about
the red hair you may have before we got married but since that day on I have trusted you so I will take
the blame for Kenny. Bye
