Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Sept [September] 22, 1952
Mon [Monday] Morn [morning], 9 AM
Dearest “Wife”
Another Monday has come around and it is time once again for me to write my weekly note. I
trust you had a dull weekend? Mine was sorta bad as I head to pull C.Q.[Charge of Quarters] all day
yesterday. I did have a pretty good time last night as we played the guitars and sang for about 3 hrs
[hours]. I sure do wish I could pick melody like Smoky I just cain’t seem to get the hang of it.
How has my gal been feeling lately? Not to bad I hope, before to much longer you will probally
[sic] feel a little bit more like yourself. I don’t know it may be better if you do turn off cold then maybe
you won’t step out on me to often? Would you if you got the chance?? [page 2] I don’t suppose I would
blame you but I doubt if there is much I could do about it as I am a little to far away from you. Let’s talk
about something else huh? That is one thing I hate to think of as I am sorta jealous of who messes with
you, in case I didn’t tell you, I miss you a little and some day might grow to love every pound of you.
Isn’t that nice of me? Well we are staring starting (this word I didn’t need) a touch-football league then
Nov [November] 3 basketball season gets under way, along about the same time bowling may start so at
least I am going to have something to do in the evenings. That is okay by me as I think it will be a lot of
fun. My dear Wife I have wrote [page 3] you many times that I work in packing and crating. There are 2
GI’s counting me we have 7 Germans (no girls) who do all the packing all we have to do is supervise
them which isn’t to hard believe me as they are a good bunch. We pack dependents and G.I.’s returning
to the States and else where. Now is that a good enough description? No there was nothing wrong with
me besides the cold I had except perhaps a little homesick. As for the wart it was on my wrist bone you
ought to be able to remember it. No I do not like the boys names you sent in the letter, I am sorry that I
am so hard to please. It does us no good but sometimes I sorta wish we had of been a little more careful
although I enjoyed it every time only wish I had it to do over again it would probally [sic] be the same
[page 4] way only 3 times as often unless you stoped [sic] me. I will write you later all about Amsterdam
believe me it is quite a place.
I can assure you I did nothing wrong thou [sic] you will not believe me. I do not know why other
women cannot affect me the way you do, think what you like but I have sure been true to you in that
respect. Boy they really have a swell band at the club I have danced a few times to it seems like old
times. It is hard to keep from dancing a little as I really love to dance, that is one thing I cain’t help so I
hope you don’t mind to much. I am going to quit playing bingo as I never even come close to winning.
One fella won $500 last week I happen to know him as he is in the [page 5] M.P.s [Military Police]. They
sleep in the same building with our Det [Detachment]. There is something wrong with the mail I do not
write any oftener, but it has been taking your mail longer to get here maybe mine is the same way. 5
pages this should count for 2 letters this wk [week], now I hope you aren’t mad at me anymore.
It is time I closed this note as I have run out of paper filler. Tell all hello for me and take care of
yourself. Baby I am pretty hot right now I need to sleep with you if you weren’t pregaent [pregnant]
(you know what I mean).
With all my Love
Your useless Husband
Jr Tinder
P.S. Before long we have been tied up a yr [year], does it actually seem that long to you? Not to me for
some reason or other.
