Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Sept [September] 15, 1952
Hi “Honey”
I will try to do a little better this week may write you 2 letters only trouble is having something
to say news is pretty scarce over here at present. Another week has passed which is good before to
much longer Christmas will roll around by that time we will be papa & mamma plus being married over a
year. I was wondering which is nearest, the truth (out of sight out of mind) or (absence makes the heart
grow fonder) I dare you to tell me the actual way you feel about it? I will have to try and make you fall
for me all over again that is if you ever did fall. You cain’t tell me that an absence of 1½ year won’t make
a difference in anyone’s life of [page 2] course it may be for the better of which I have my doubts as I
always heard the first year of married life is the best, ours is just about up. I know for at least 5 months I
could have had a wonderful time if you had of let me. Knowing you as I do I bet you wouldn’t. So you
think because I didn’t write and tell you what I did on leave that I did something wrong? Funny girl what
could I do? I thought you would be happy just to know that I had a good time. I recon [sic] it is about
time I went thru what I did the past wk [week] since it has been so long ago that I went on furlough I
know that wouldn’t interest you now. Haven’t been doing much except going to shows, had a
P.T.[Physical Training] test Thur [Thursday] sure did get stiff, Sat [Saturday] eve [evening] I played
basketball, Sat [Saturday] nite I stayed out all night didn’t go back [page 3] to the billets till 9 AM, Sun
[Sunday] didn’t do much just couldn’t make up our minds to go in. Probally [sic] be restricted but who
cares might catch up on some sleep. Last nite they had bingo at the club I am going to quit going as I
never win anything one fella won $500. How have you been feeling lately? not to bad I hope, as for you
mom I hope she is better. Think I will sign off for now tell all hello for me and take care of yourself
“Fatty” (take a man to really put the fat on a woman)
Bye
Jr Tinder
P.S. You better not have twins if you do I am going to re-enlist. By the way do you have those names
picked out yet?
P.S.S. Here is some of the money used in Holland 3.70 to the dollar, 4.20 mark to the dollar in Germany
