Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Aug [August] 25, 1952
Mon [Monday] Eve [evening] 1 PM
Dearest Darling
Believe it or not your old man is writing you another letter. I shouldn’t thou [sic] as I only
received 1 letter from you when I got back from Amsterdam. I only hope that you have been feeling
okay as for me not so darn hot as I still have a bad cold, I think I will go on sick call tomorrow. I also lost
a filling in my tooth so I will have to get that fixed before to long. I had a wonderful time on my trip only
now that I am back it makes me pretty homesick. It is sure a lot like the States up there plenty of
American cars and most of the people I met spoke pretty good English. I regret to say that I never got to
take very many pictures as it was cloudy most of the time. I hardly bought any [page 2] soveniers
[souvenirs] either just a small pair of wooden shoes I thought they were cute. I am not much of a hand
at buying things like that as you probally [sic] allready [sic] know. I spent $110 on the trip but I don’t
regret a penny of it sure was wonderful to get away from this darn hole. Last night was the first nite off
my furlough and I had to pull guard duty which they just started last wk [week], I was so mad I couldn’t
see straight. I would of wrote this morn [morning] but I was so tired that I slept the biggest part of it. So
you forgot how old I am it is 24 I thought for sure you knew that. Golly I am much in love with you today
funny a trip should make me feel like that isn’t it? ha ha. No kidding there are many beautiful women in
Amsterdam but I wouldn’t trade you for any of them. It will be so wonderful when [page 3] I am home
again. Today I have been in the Army 13 months only 11 more to go, still a long time huh? I got a card
from Frank and Helen I bet the old boy is proud as a peacock he thinks it takes a man to make a boy I
recon [sic] ours will be a girl then (but not really) I wish I were home and you were not so far along. I
believe I could make you wish I were in Germany. I will tell you the honest to God truth no other girl
have I met can interest me in that respect I suppose you were my first and last. Something must be
wrong with me as other men I can name sure don’t feel that way. So James has a new car? I bet he is
real proud of it tell him I thought he knew better than to buy a Chevy. Mark my words he will be sorry a
Ford would [page 4] have been much better. Naturally that is the way I feel. To bad I couldn’t keep
them in the road I may not be so poor as I am.
Mon [Monday] Eve [evening]
I received a letter from you just now and sorry to hear about your sister stepping out on Pete. No
Darling I hope you don’t step out on me after you have the baby I suppose you might but I hope I never
live to hear about it. You ought to know I would never trust you as I think you are hot natured to bad I
am not the same way with other women. It is possible Bob Hund is a Sgt [Sargent], I do not know if rank
is froze everywhere I really believe it is thou [sic]. I will close for now as I am going to the show (Pride of
St. Louis). Tell all hello for me
Much Love and many Kisses
Jr Tinder
P.S. I really miss you Angel maybe by the time I come home I will be in love with you.
Bye
