Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Aug [August] 4, 1952
Mon [Monday] Morn [morning] 7:45
Dear Agnes
This is about as early as I have ever started writing to you but I guess it is as good a time as any.
I have a few of your letters that I better answer I recon [sic]. Volpe is on a three day pass so I had to
open up shop this morn [morning], won’t be long till I cut out (13 more days). I went and got me a $100
worth of travelers checks I intend to get about 60 or 70 more today so I should have plenty of money.
That is to say if I don’t spend a lot of it before I go. I cain’t remember if I wrote you since payday or not I
got $64 across the board the boys also paid me quite a bit, although I think I will quit loaning so much
out as it runs into a lot [page 2] of trouble. I have missed 3 wks [weeks] in a row playing bingo nobody
has won the big pot yet so I shall try my luck this wk [week] (maybe). I didn’t do much this wk [week]
end went to the show and club Sat [Saturday] night stayed in all day Sun [Sunday] I am a real good boy
aren’t I? I am supprised [surprised] that you think I had a date with a girl the nite I went dancing well I
had the sweetest little gal I have met in a long time but not really as I don’t go with girls since I am
married. What do you mean I don’t like to dance with you if I remember I have danced more with you
than any other girl in my life so help me I bet that is the truth. Before I forget it again did Nida get
married before we did? Supicious [suspicious] aren’t I? I am not a drunkard as you believe me to be
even thou [sic] I have been drunk 3 or 4 times even then just [page 3] a little. I am not taking a month
leave sure would like to have one thou [sic], mine is only 7 days. By the way what could I have possibly
said in one of my letter that would make you mad? I still contend if you are blaming me for things I
don’t do I might as well do them. I have went out 2 nights in over 2 wks [weeks] what is the matter with
that? Ah heck enough harping (kidding I meant to say). Darling I think you are wonderful I love you very
much, more than anything in the world. If only I could be with you forever I would never want to leave I
am so happy we got married that I don’t mind spending 2 years in the Army so long as I know I will have
you the rest of my life. I think of you all the [page 4] time. We have had such a short time together but I
suppose it really only makes me miss you that much more. Someday I hope to continue as we were
what seems so long ago to me. I could write a sweet letter if I wanted to couldn’t I? Only trouble is you
know me better than that instead I am mean as hell I really don’t see how you could ever put up with a
jerk like I am. To be truthful you deserved something better so if you want a divorce I shall grant it.
Man I go from one extreme to the other hell I don’t know what I want except to be out of this business I
am now in. Glad to hear the shower was okay but I want to make a comment on the names you have
picked out for a girl Janice Elaine will be swell as for the boy don’t you dare name him either of those
[page 5] 2 names you sent in your letter. I won’t claim it if you do so there. They are awful awful awful.
Please pick out a better one huh? Yes I heard from Bob while back the gal he goes with is Alice Tate I
thought you knew her. Well honey I will close-please don’t hate me to bad. Tell all hello for me and
take care of yourself.
All my Love
Jr. Tinder
P.S. The East Leavenworth News was sure newsey [sic] wasn’t it? Pauline and Bob are lucky me I am
unlucky as hell.
