Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
July 15, 1952
Tue [Tuesday] Morn [morning] 11 AM
Hello “Lover”
I am a little behind on writing recon [sic] I better get in gear. I have been lazier than usual lately
I guess that is as good excuse as any. My dear you couldn’t possibly look bad enough for me to want to
stay over here for 3 more months if I had the chance to come home. Of course I know you may not win
a beauty prize right now but I would still like to give you something which may not be big only it still
bothers me a lot. When you see me coming you might as well get ready. Aren’t I awful? Cain’t help it
thou [sic] for that is how I feel. I don’t think you insulted my pictures because I knew they were not any
good when I sent them and as for me being a sweet Guy you know good and well I am mean as hell to
you I should have my head beat in. Don’t you try it. [page 2] I don’t have any idea what T.M.H stands
for on the letter could be a lot of things. Also about the birthday I am at a loss till I receive it so I will just
have to wait. Sure I know Bill Taulbee and pardon my opinion but I don’t think he is so handsome. By
the way what has come over Elvera, now she goes with ex-married men huh? It’s no good to me as I am
still married. You know good and well you would get over it if we broke up. It is still nice to know you
love me that much. I like you a little myself I sure miss you to. Not that you will be interested but I
suppose it is about time I caught you up on what I have been doing lately, not much I assure you. Last
Thur [Thursday] I played bingo came close to $35, $40 right in a row but never won a thing close don’t
count. Sat [Saturday] I had K.P. [Kitchen Patrol] went to the club Sat [Saturday] nite sure had a swell
time to. I danced [page 3] quite a few times, some of these women can really jitterbug. We celebrated
one of the fellas girl’s birthday I drank my first Champane [champagne] it isn’t to bad. Didn’t do much
Sun [Sunday], last night after on inspection I went up to the Gym and shot some basketball on my way
back I heard some guys playing hillbilly music. They are real good tonight I am going to practice with
them. I hope mom and them send my outfit over it would sure be a lot of fun. Boy I will be glad when
this month is past this Thur [Thursday] we have a big General inspection and a wk [week] from Fri
[Friday] we go out in the field for a night then on Sat [Saturday] we fire on the range I don’t care to do
those things. I doubt if I haft [sic] to go to school now as I have a new job starting [page 4] today I am
assigned to packing and crating. It isn’t going to be as easy as Heav [Heavy] Equip [Equipment] but it will
be okay. I am taking a leave to celebrate my birthday supposed to go to Holland for 7 days on the 17th of
Aug [August] I wrote home today for 50 bucks as I want to have a good time when I go. Ought to be
able to get some good pictures to. Angel I am out of news for now, hope I win the $450 or $200 jackpot
Thur [Thursday] night. Tell all hello for me wish I were there with you if you are real fat (would you let
me have a little?)
All my Love
Jr Tinder
P.S. Sorry I talk so bad sometimes only I get so ______ warm
