Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
June 7, 1952
Sat [Saturday] Morn [morning] 8 AM
Dearest Darling
I will try to write a few lines and get this in the 9 oclock [sic] mail. I sure write a lot anymore
more than I usually do. Another week has passed which I am glad it is over. I didn’t do a thing till Wed
[Wednesday] then I drove the DKW to Bingen [Bingen am Rhein, Germany], Thur [Thursday] we were
out in the field all day and night. It was sure pretty weather but my muscles are sure stiff from sleeping
on the ground. Fri [Friday] we had another holiday, D day or something or other. We got in from the
field at 6:30 I ate, cleaned up then slept till noon. Yes. [yesterday] eve [evening] one of the Boys bought
him a mandolin we play for 3 or four hrs [hours] this morn [morning] my fingers are a little sore. It
started raining last and is still raining this morn [morning] hope it clears by night as I want to go to the
show without [page 2] getting drowned. Wed [Wednesday] I bought some of the best strawberries I
have ever ate. I got them up at Bingen [Bingen am Rhein, Germany], on the market (Sure are some
pretty girls up there) (Of course I am married) I swiped some cream and sugar from the mess hall which
really made them delicous [sic]. Now what I would like to have most is some good fried chicken, French
fries with tomatoes, also lemonade doesn’t it sound good to you? I picked some cherries at a ladies
house (she told me I could) I at[e] them raw I like them better that way than when they are cooked. I
sent off my roll of film to get it developed. I just bet they will be flops. I have decided I would like more
pictures of you no need to wait till later send me some now and some more as I requested before I left
home. How have you been feeling lately? lazy? [page 3] I will be the laziest Guy when I get home.
Maybe to lazy to do anything. By the way what did you mean when you said that you weren’t going to
let me catch up on something? I have an idea, just for that maybe I won’t try to catch up, or either I may
be caught up allready [sic]. Gosh I would like to see you I hate this place if you were here it would be
okay. Well I will close and get this in the mail. Tell all hello for me
All my love
Jr Tinder
P.S. Here is a little trinket it is an engineer castle with my Eucom [United States European Command]
patch on it. I though [sic] it was cute. I am going to send a bunch of things home one of these months. I
sent mom, Mary K one also.
Bye Bye
[on back of 3rd page]
I Love you MUCH
