Biographical History
Velna Grace Morgan was born on January 1, 1893 in Missouri. Velna lived in Independence, Jackson
County, Missouri with her parents. She married John Orville Crabtree on March 17, 1915 in
Independence and they had one daughter, Margaret Virginia. She worked for the city of Independence
beginning in 1926 until 1965 as a secretary to the Mayor. Velna was also active in the Business and
Professional Women’s Club. She died on April 24, 1973.
Margaret Virginia Crabtree was born on February 15, 1921 in Independence, Missouri. She graduated
from William Chrisman High School and attended Central Methodist University in Fayetteville, Missouri.
On June 28, 1942, Margaret married George W. Lauderdale in Independence. They had two sons,
George and Robert. During her life, Margaret was active in many community organizations. Margaret
died on May 11, 2007.
