Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
May 24, 1952
Sat [Saturday] Eve [evening] 1:30
Dearest Wife:
I will start you a letter but as lazy as I am no telling when I will get it finished. Another week has
dragged by and as you have probally [sic] allready [sic] guessed I didn’t take off to school today. They
tell me now I am going in June, I won’t believe it till I get there. I would like to have got gone then I
would not of had to pull C.Q. [Charge of Quarters] this weekend along with this Tuesday. Also I am tired
of this place to many inspections among other little things that make life more miserable. I have done
more work this week (if you could call driving work) then I have done since I came over here. [page 2] I
forgot to tell you that a major found me sleeping one morning a couple weeks ago boy did he chew me
out. There are ways to get around that thou [sic] as I now sleep in the tool room. I only drove three
days got a kick out of driving the little put-put around. I have went to 1 show in over 2 wks [weeks] the
rest of the time I have stayed in the hotel, including last Sat [Saturday], Sun [Sunday], this Sat [Saturday],
Sun [Sunday]. So you see how true your Husband is to you? I don’t know what you mean about me
doing what the poem says, what poem? So you don’t consider any of my questions important huh?
maybe I do you never know. That was quite a picture of the house you sure [page 3] didn’t have to go
very far to go swimming. Speaking of swimming I doubt if I will get to go till I come home. I took a few
pictures so will send them to you. I will only keep the ones of the women. On second thought I will
send you one if you will send it back. Quite the ladies huh. The Foch Karsene [German base] as you can
see, also a clock in what used to be a german army camp. What do you think of my car, there are sure a
lot of different styles over here. The front of the Eis Revue and last the Kurhaus Hotel were all the
officiers [sic] stay it is sure nice out on the terrace they have blue tile which is really pretty our HE office
is in the basement [page 4] on what the Germans call the first floor. It is a pretty good layout to. This
daggone telephone is ringing off the wall this eve [evening] I have allready [sic] ran up the steps a dozen
times. Well next Sat [Saturday] is payday but money is no good to me as I have nothing to spend it on. I
have $32 loaned out so if I get around 50 I ought to start saving some. I also got a raise as you probably
know you got one to but you won’t start getting it till Sept [September]. They pay it to me up to that
time. Looks like I may hook you for a few bucks. I wish I had a picture of me right [page 5] now to send
to you I bet you would be supprised [surprised]. Wouldn’t you and Rosetta like to be single again? I bet
you would, I know for sure being single is better than being married at least while I am away from you. I
bet I would really be harping at you if we weren’t hitched, cause I am jealous of you. I hate the thought
of not being with you for over 18 mos [months]. It sounds like you do quite a bit of needle work
anymore the kid should have something to wear by the time it arrives!
Sunday Eve [evening] 1 PM
I better finish this note and get it in the mail. Boy these [page 6] weekend C.Q’s [Charge of
Quarters] are no good I am really tired. We had a pretty good meal today: chicken, mashed potatoes,
corn, lemonade, dressing, gravy, in fact they have been feeding better this past week. Our ball team is
not doing so good we have only won 1 game so far out of 6. I sure plunked a lot on my music box this
morn [morning] was really in the mood. I hope by the time I leave here I can play it a lot better as I
would like to start or get with a band when I come home. Angel I am about out of paper so will sign off.
Hope you all are cleaned up from the water, as I bet it was a mess. Tell all hello for me. I love you (I
think)
Miss you much
Jr Tinder
P.S. About those letters just keep writing is all I have to say.
