Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Feb [February] 26, 1952
Tue [Tuesday] Eve [evening] 6 PM
Dearest Darling
I feel like writing another eight page letter after getting 14 of them this morn [morning]. There
is only one thing better than letters over here naturally more letters. I recon [sic] I might as well tell you
how much I miss you again. If only I were home with you I wouldn’t be the bag I was during my delay in
route. I bet after this year and a half during the rest of my life I will tell you I love you so many times
your ears will ring. I really didn’t thing I would miss you as much as I do. Sometimes I feel pretty dam
awful. I haven’t done much these last few days Saturday night I got a pass went down to see
Zweibrucken. It is really a dump. Boy the Airforce flattened it out during the war they haven’t rebuilt
very much. It was so dark on the streets that you would of passed up your best friend and never
reconized [recognized] her. I walked around for awhile [sic] then walked back to camp as it is only a
little over a mile. I’ll tell you one thing it will be plenty dull over here [page 2] till I learn to speak a little
German. Sunday eve [evening] they interviewed us to see what we were assigned to do. I was afraid I
wouldn’t get general utility repairmen but I did. I think it will be a pretty good deal and am well
satisfied. The Sargent also asked me what I like to play best, basketball or baseball. I told him I liked
both of them. He put me down for basketball I don’t know whether anything will come of it or not.
Monday we were orientated for 4 hrs [hours] today we were orientated for 2 more. This evening they
gave us our orders were we are assigned so it looks like I will settle down for awhile [sic]. I am going to
Kaiserslautern, Germany around 30 miles from were [where] I am now located. I have to get up at 3:30
in the morning and leave at 6. It shouldn’t take us to long to get there. Right now I am standing by for
inspection then after finishing this letter I shall shine my shoes, shave, shower, wash my hair, pack all my
stuff then write the folks. It doesn’t look like I will get to bed very early I should of did some of it already
instead [page 3] of reading. I will be glad when I get settled and find out what my job is. I hope the
quarters are as nice in Kaiserslautern as they are here. I will send you a picture of the building I am in as
soon as I get them developed. I have only taken about 7 pictures since I left home haven’t seen
anything to interesting yet only hope Kaiserslautern isn’t quite as bad as Zweibrucken. Hello Darling!
After a shake down, writing the folks I am now ready to finish your letter. You know something I am
very much in love with you. I am just waiting for the next 17 mo [months] 3 days then I will be the
happiest guy going even if I am papa. You said something about wanting me which I couldn’t quite
understand (I have ideas thou [sic]) please explain yourself better in the future. I have really missed
beating the old guitar every once in awhile [sic]. As soon as I get settled I am going to look around and
see if they have any over here if they don’t maybe we can get one shipped over. They are going to shut
out the lights so I guess I had better close for now. [page 4] Keep firing those letters. Tell all the Folks
hello for me.
All my Love
Your Beastly Hubbie
Now known as Dad over here
Jr Tinder
P.S. I hope this letter finds you much much better. Take care of yourself
