Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Sun [Sunday] Eve [evening] Dec [December] 9
1951
Hello ‘Baby’
I shall write you a letter as at the present I am waiting for another detail. Hope you had a lovely
time this past weekend. Bet you wished you were single again, don’t you? Its just to bad because you
are tied up exactly like me. I miss you much wish I were home right now of course it would be bad for
you if I were. I hate to admit it but I am in love with you even if I am married. All I can say it is the devil
being away from you all the time. To be truthful we do not even know what real married life is like.
Therefore until we could have been together all the time we should have stayed single. Either way it has
its drawbacks. Just got back from a detail had to clean out 9 culverts it wasn’t very hard but it was kinda
cold. We were lucky and got passes last night only trouble is (you know me) I didn’t use mine. I went to
the show then saw part of a basketball game and at 9:45 came back to the barricks [sic] and went to
bed. Never got up this morn [page 2] till 11:00 oclock. I suppose if they let us off tonight I will go to
another show. I want to thank you for the cookies also yes, I got the candy. They came in handy. I only
have about 5 cookies left. The thin ones were really good there were a few of them crumbled up thou
[sic]. I finished eating the crumbs while I was reading the paper in bed. Boy this old Army is really the
racket isn’t it? Well here I am on a cold but bright Mon[Monday] morn [morning] will try to finish this
letter so I can mail it. Just finished taking a test doubt if I did to good on it as I don’t know anything
about electricity. Believe me it is cold in this classroom wish they would start a fire. Darling disregard
the other side of this paper as I love you regardless of what I say or do. I am really lonely for you more
than you think, I bet. If only I were with you all the time it would be wonderful. I know it is impossible
to get 10 days for Christmas so I recon [sic] we will have to settle for 5. I hope I get at least that many.
Actually for all that we did we might as well got passes this past weekend. Personally I think they are
chicken. Angel I was wondering when the first payment was due on the $100 I borrowed? [page 3] We
will have to scrap it up some where. Also we will have to buy some Christmas presents. For the present
you can just forget mine as I will probally [sic] have to wait to get yours also. Although I already know
what I am going to give you, I think. Well I suppose Rosetta and Jack are about as good as hitched. They
make a good pair don’t you think? You will have to get them something this week if you haven’t
already. I quote [Lore?] and now they better give me a pass this weekend or there is going to be war. I
want to come home and beat your head in, but not really because I have other ideas in my thick head.
Tell the folks hello for me and that I am sorry that I didn’t come down the last time I was home. Class is
about to start we are going to see a movie on plumbing. Sounds interesting doesn’t it? I went to 2
shows last night 1 of them was really good. Hope to see you real soon
Your used to be boyfriend
Jr Tinder
P.S. I missed those good meals I have when I am at home. Believe it or not they have made me a little
heavier 182 lbs of bone. Even surprised myself
See you “Croppie”
