Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
Sun [Sunday] Eve [evening] 8:20
Nov [November] 18, 1951
Dearest Darling
Believe me I am really lonely for you tonight as I write you this letter. No more than last night as
I went to a show and they always seem to make me feel sad. Went to one this eve [evening] also called
(Starlift) it was really good. Much better if you had of been here thou [sic]. After the show I went to
Service club 4 to write you a letter but the place was packed because there was a bunch of girl [sic] from
East St. Louis. I never did care much for Burlesque but there sure was a bunch of legs flying around.
Well that much dreaded bivouac is over. It was really rough to, had a night problem every night rain,
snow or cold didn’t bother or stop them at all. I couldn’t sleep at all like to froze to death no matter
how much I put on. One thing they fed us pretty good but we had to eat outside so we couldn’t enjoy it.
I could write ten pages complaing [sic] since it is over no need in griping now. [page 2] Fri [Friday] I came
in to get what teeth I have left worked on and believe me I really was sick when I got were it was warm.
I got to lay down while I was waiting for a truck back out to the area slept from 9 till 1 oclock [sic] didn’t
even get any dinner when I awoke I felt some what better. Me and another kid built a fire and stayed up
all night Fri [Friday] then Sat [Saturday] morn [morning] we hiked 12 miles back to camp never thought I
would make it but I did. Right now I feel awful have a bad cold cain’t hardly talk also my chest had been
bothering me the past 3 days so I think I will hit the sick list tomorrow. Just hope I don’t get pneumonia
as it would really foul me up. Being married and away from your wife is no darn good but I think I have
had good luck anyway it makes me happy to think I will be close to you for awhile [sic] yet. It is a
general Utility school which consists of carpentering, plumbing and some other thing. Don’t know to
much about it although it sounds like a good deal I only wish I could get separate rations then the first
thing that [page 3] would happen is, I would bring you down. Cross your’e [sic] fingers baby as I may get
home some time Wed [Wednesday] night. Which reminds I don’t get no delay in route as I start to
school the 26th of Nov. Doubt if I even get a pass next weekend but I hope maybe you can come down
as I don’t want to spend another weekend like this past one. I suppose you heard about the wacky
telephone call James really got it twisted up. When I found out I didn’t get a pass I had a fella call home
and tell you all to try and come down also that I had got a school. I called home this morn [morning]
would like to have talked to you but I wanted to find out how they were coming along with my car. Was
really disappointed to hear they had not even started yet. Well I am tired of writing can talk a lot better
so will wait till Wed [Wednesday] nite (I hope). I miss you terribly
All my Love
Jr Tinder
P.S. Tell the folks hello

[page 4]
Morning “Angel”
How is my gal this morning down here it is sort of chilly hope it warms up by the time I get back from
sick call. This barricks [sic] was really messed up today I just got my bunk cleaned up when the whistle
blew. Hope to see you soon
Love as always
Jr
P.S. Bet you hate to go to work today.
