Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. correspondence
6 August 1951
7:50 o’clock
Dearest Darling,
Have just finished reading your letter through for the second time so now I guess I had better
answer it. First I want to tell you that I love you love you love you very much and miss you more than I
could ever put into words. I regret more than anything else that I didn’t marry you a long time ago. I
just didn’t think or realize that this could ever happen to me (being in the Army) and away from you or I
would have. Just one thing I want to say, just as soon as it is possible and you want to we are going to
get married. Nothing would please me more than for you to put that ring on and never take it off.
Angel this is for keeps I am not kidding one bit. I will talk to you a lot more about it Sunday as I think
maybe I could say it better than writing it. Yes It [sic] will be swell for you all to come down although I
will not be able to go off the Base this time. I shall look forward to seeing you and in this hell hole that
will help me a lot to get through this week as it is really going to be rough. Today was just a starter and I
am really tired. But not so tired that I cain’t [sic] write [page 2] {Darling you sounded like you didn’t get
my letter Sat [Saturday] hope you have got it by now. Bye} to you. Sat [Saturday] eve we got off and
was off till this Mon. [Monday] morning. Although it was nice to be off there was not a thing to do. First
thing I did was to wash my clothes (sounds odd doesn’t it) then me and another fellow cleaned up and
went to the Service Club No 1. Nothing to do there but wander around finally I ran on to a bunch of
fellows playing the guitar and Mandolin boy he could really pick that thing. I started playing with him
and pretty soon a whole gang of us was singing songs then some guy came up and wanted us to be on a
program that nite [sic] but we didn’t do it. Sunday was really a long drawn out day sort of half looked
for someone to come down that morning, fiddled around all evening then went to the show that nite
[sic]. Boy what a dull weekend. The show was really good I expect you seen it (Here Comes The Groom)
only thing I enjoyed except when I played the Guitar. Was really glad to hear that Bob and them won
the show wish I could of heard them but didn’t know nothing about it till to[o] late. Hope they keep on
doing it. You should try it sometime {over}
[page 3] Darling I will try to answer every letter you write but sometimes I may be busy or really
to[o] tired to write but don’t you just wait every time till I write to you because I really look forward to
hearing from the gal I love so when you can write to me. How is your mom, Pop, Boy and Lou making it?
Tell them hello for me, also tell your mom I want her to watch you for me. Was really tickled to get the
pictures they were swell except for old sleepy headed me. I look like a bent broomstick in most of them.
I must say that one of you in the shorts is really swell sharp is the word or slick and I’m not joking. Well
darling I had better close as I must write Mary K, shine shoes, take a shower, shave before I can go to
bed and it is 8:40 now. Lights out at 9:30. Am counting the minutes till I see you Sun [Sunday] so don’t
let nothing stop you
I miss you Heavy
All my Love
Jr Tinder
P.S. Kisses I am saving all of them till I see you. Be good
PS Aggie they are changing this B’ldg [Building] from D. to C. Wed [Wednesday] but I guess you had
better write at least one more letter to D. know I will get it
