Eva Maria Hinman Giles Papers

While preparing to move to California, Eva Giles took some papers to her neighbor Carl Guertler in Ogden, Utah to be burned. He saw some old stamps and while looking through the papers, he noticed they had genealogical value. She gave permission for him to keep the papers and they were donated to the Genealogical Society of Utah. The papers were withdrawn from the library and eventually donated to the Midwest Genealogy Center. The papers include some items belonging to Eva’s father, Morgan Hinman and include an account book from 1866, a land patent in Utah, and a muster roll containing his name. Other documents include deeds, bonds, contracts, probate, and other records relating to her ancestors living in West Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Some of the early documents date back to the late 1700s and early 1800s.

Kimberlin Family Collection

This collection pertains to the Kimberlin family of Cass County, Missouri. It inludes, deeds, land pattents, title abstracts, farm leases, and insurance policies. Some of the other items relate to their professional life as a judge, county clerk, and a farmer.

Christian County Missouri Indexes and Transcribed Records

Beginning in 1987, Mabel Phillips of the Christian County Library, created indexes and transcribed records pertaining to the residents of Christian County Missouri. The digital files have been shared with libraries, archives, museums, historical organizations, and genealogical societies for those researching their family history. The indexed and transcribed records include census, court, land, death, marriage, organizations, and history.

This collection is digital only. Any printed publication beyond a few pages needs to credit the source as either "Christian County Library" or "Transcribed Records of Christian County Missouri"

Gleaner Combine Collection

The Gleaner Manufacturing Company opened a plant on South Cottage Street in Independence, Missouri in 1925. It was a major employer in Independence through the 1950s. Gleaner Manufacturing was acquired by Allis-Chalmers in 1955, helping the company expand their farm equipment business and to lead the way in self-propelled machines and combines. The company was sold to Deutz AG or Deutz-Allis in the 1980s. In 1991, the company name changed to AGCO, but the company still continued to produce the Gleaner brand. The plant in Independence was operated until 2000 when operations were moved to a more modern plant in Hesston, Kansas.

Woodlawn Cemetery Collection

This collection contains digital images of death registers, burial registers, and lot sales from the early cemetery sections of Woodlawn Cemetery known as City Cemetery and Saint Mary Cemetery in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.

The register of deaths is a chronological list of deaths recorded by the city clerk from June 1897 to August 1911. The burial register is a chronological list of those buried in City Cemetery between June 1897 and May 1918. Records included with the lot sales include various types of documents showing sale and ownership of the plots from 1865 to 1951.

Gentry County, Missouri Collection

This collection contains three items from Gentry County, Missouri. The first is an index to court records. The index book to court records is titled Index to the Demand Records 3 Gentry County and is undated. The second item is a tax receipt book from October of 1888 that gives the name, lot, and block number as well as the value of the property and the amount of taxes paid. The third item is a store ledger from an unknown local business dated 1881 that records names, items purchased and the amount.

World War II Scrapbook

This collection contains one scrapbook that was compiled with newspaper articles relating to World War II. Due to the poor condition of the scrapbook and the acidic nature of the newspapers, the scrapbook was digitized and the original scrapbook was not kept.

Family Bible Collection

Family Bibles were often received on an occasion such as a wedding and were handed down through a family, with each successive generation recording information about the family's history inside it.  

The original Bibles in this collection are located in the Midwest Genealogy Center's archives. Only the family record sheets containing the names and dates have been scanned and included in this digital collection. For additional information on each of the Bibles refer to the finding aids on the website.

Salem Cemetery Association

The Salem Cemetery Association was formed in 1917 to maintain the Salem Cemetery which is located at 24 Hwy and Blue Mills Road, just east of Independence, Missouri. 

Included in this collection are several journal style books. A blue journal, red journal, and another journal contain burials by lot number. A typed alphabetical index was created by the Association. Sales and deed books include a gray journal (1945-2004), and a red journal (1984-2017). The Association created a collection of obituaries from 1975 to 2017 clipped from the newspaper.

The original records are in possession of the Salem Cemetery Association. Items in this collection were digitized by the Midwest Genealogy Center.

DeKalb County Herald

The DeKalb County Herald was a newspaper published in Maysville, DeKalb County, Missouri. The first part of the newspaper is dated November 16, 1899. The second portion is undated but is a souvenir edition with information about the various communities, people, and businesses in the area.

Transcribed Church and Bible Records

The composition book contains transcriptions of church and bible records. Church records include the English Lutheran Church of Kansas City, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, and Swedish Lutheran Church. Transcriptions of numerous family Bibles record births, marriages, and deaths. Notes detail the owner and location of the Bible. Many of the records relate to families in the Kansas City area.

Iowa Obituaries

This collection contains obituaries from the Des Moines Register from 1991-1993. Only those individuals who were born in Missouri and died in Iowa were included. The compiler arranged the obituaries by letter of the alphabet, and then chronologically by death date within the letter of the alphabet. Additionally, she created an index of maiden names and cross-referenced it to the married name.

D. F. Bone

David Francis “Frank” Bone was a Methodist circuit preacher in Northwest Missouri in the late 1800s through the early 1900s.

Herbert C Roy Photograph Collection

This collection mainly contains photographs of the Roy and Cook families. Other photographs include ones taken by Herbert C Roy, a professional photographer in the St. Louis area. One particular photograph of interest is one taken by Herbert C Roy of former President Harry S. Truman as he observed a photo of Winston Churchill in an exhibition case at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Harry S. Truman signed the photo taken in 1954.

Raytown Historical Society Collection

The Raytown Historical Society was incorporated in 1966. Their museum is located at 9705 E. 63rd Street in Raytown, Missouri. The museum has displays and information on the Raytown community, its people, schools, government, and churches. Additionally the research center located inside the museum contains information relating to the history and families of Raytown. 

The Midwest Genealogy Center has created a digital collection of some of the items located at the Raytown Historical Society and Museum in Raytown, Missouri.

Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodges of Jackson Co., MO Collection

This collection includes fraternal records from Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodges in the Jackson County, Missouri area ranging from as early as 1857 to as recent as 2000. A few of the records are from Encampments, a higher branch, and from the Grand Lodge of Missouri. The collection includes correspondence, financial records, membership records and other materials relating to the organization and operation of the various lodges.

Ethel White Earles Scrapbook

This collection consists of a scrapbook compiled by Ethel White Earles from items clipped from the Liberty [MO] Tribune newspaper. These clippings range from the 1940s to 1950s. The contents include Clay County Cemeteries, Memoirs of Mrs. Melonda Estes, Old Folks Tales by Robert Withers, Recollections of Life in Liberty by W.F. Carpenter, My Scrapbook by H.H. King, Mt. Memorial Cemetery at William Jewell College, and Graves in Price Cemetery.

Walker/McCann Family Diaries

This collection consists of diaries written by members of the Joel M. Walker and Charles R. McCann families. These diaries describe the lives of farmers and their families. In addition to recording family life, these diaries also recorded historical events happening around Iowa and the United States. All diaries were written in Cedar and Muscatine counties in Iowa.

Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. Correspondence Collection

This collection contains correspondence between Guy Lee Tinder, Jr. and Agatha Lorene Lentz Tinder. Most of the items within this collection are dated from July 1951 to June 1953 and are written by Guy Tinder during his military service.
